Information System linking Citizen Biology Networks and Governmental Organizations-Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection (Management of Data Collection)

In January 2006 the Finnish Museum of Natural History launched a new service to collect observational data of flora and fauna. The tradition of nature watching is very strong in Scandinavia and our museum has been engaged in amateur biologists? activities for many decades. To reach even larger audiences,an electronic field notebook was designed to serve both botanists as well as zoologists. The Internet-based notebook enables amateurs to share their observations with the scientific community.Registered users can search the entire data by species names, higher taxa or by geographical regions. The observations can be plotted against Google maps.
