IT Infrastructure Capabilities in Firm Performance Research:A Review and A Revised Research Model

IT infrastructure research has been developed significantly since it became the most important information systems management issue in 1996.Among IT infrastructure studies, the Zhu (2004) research model (referred to as the Zhu model hereafter) is notable in that it not only included the main effects of e-commerce and IT infrastructure but also emphasized their interaction effects on firm performance. However, the analysis of IT infrastructure capabilities in firm performance research suggested that the Zhu model needs to be revised because of 1) its application to the e-eommeree context only; 2) its limited dimensions of IT infrastracture; 3) its tangible and financial measurements for firm performance.A revised research model was developed to generalize the applicable domain and all three constructs in the original Zhu model. This study contributes to the literature as well as provides practical guidance to managers.
