Investigation of Related Properties of Asphalt Mixtures Containing Various Fibers
The effects of fiber modifiers on the performance of asphalt mixtures are investigated in this paper.Cellulose fiber, polyester fiber and basalt mineral fiber are adopted as modifiers and dynamic modulus test, indirect tension fatigue test and wheel track test are conducted to study the related properties of asphalt mixture containing various fibers.Test results indicate that the viscoelastic property of asphalt mixture can be improved by the addition of fiber modifiers. The dynamic modulus is increased and the phase angle is reduced for asphalt mixtures containing various fibers, which indicates that the stiffness of asphalt mixture is enhanced and the elastic portion in viscoelastic property is increased.Dynamic modulus master curves also confirm that fiber addition lead to a general increase in the complex dynamic modulus for all mixtures evaluated within the range of loading frequency.Fatigue properties of fiber modified asphalt mixtures can be improved significantly, especially at lower stress levels. The dynamic stability for asphalt mixtures containing various fibers is increased as 30 ~40 % when compared with the unmodified asphalt mixture.
