Macro,Meso and Micro Analysis: an Inquiry to Dwelling Tradition in Indonesia
There are two phenomena occurred in the housing industries in Jakarta for the last decade.First, several housing projects developed by public or private institutions were not considered achieving their main goal, which was building housing for all income level. Many home owners had tendency not to live in their own units but rented out to others. In the meanwhile, they lived in a rented room nearby their workplace and even built their own dwelling space at an illegal land.Reasons behind these tendencies are economy, cultural, and location.Second,Public and private institution were facing difficulties in locating local people to their newly built housing communities because the local residents are feeling unfamiliarity and insecurity with the new housing environment. There are two main dimensions that will be observe which are believed influencing dwelling tradition of people.First are the intrapersonal dimensions, which are fulfillment of physiology and psychology needs.Second are the environmental dimensions, which are physic,social/economical and cultural needs. Both dimensions need to be assessed in three different levels which are macro, meso and micro level. This study will focus on the important of multi level analyses on understanding dwelling tradition. The study will also propose ideas related on how to deal with housing design by understanding dwelling traditions. This study wishes to contribute multi level analysis as one alternative of public housing concepts either mid/high rise or single/multiple massing that have already existed such as co-housing,green-design housing, sustainable housing, participatory housing, community housing and subsidized housing.
