High glucose induces upregulation of scavenger-receptors andpromotes maturation and differentiation in dendritic cells
Background Several studies have proposed a pathogenic role for hyperglycemia in atherosclerosis.We tested the hypothesis whether glucose modulates dendritic cells(DCs),since these important antigen presenting cells have been implicated in atherogenesis.We investigated the impact of glucose on DC-activation with regard to oxLDL uptake,maturation and differentiation processes,expression of scavenger-receptors on DCs,endocytosis capacity,cytokine-secretion.
