High Gradient Magnetic Chitosan Microspheres Separation in Fermented Molasses Wastewater Treatment

High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) was applied fortreatment of the wastewater from fermented molasses and there generation of magnetic seeds was studied. The cross-linking magnetic chitosan microspheres have been used as an adsorbent for the removal of color, turbidity and COD from industrial wastewater, the cross-linking magnetic chitosan microspheres are synthesized by means of the reverse-phase suspension cross-linking technique with glutaraldehyde (GLA) as the cross-linker.The activation of the magnetic chitosan seeds and the efficiency of the treatment,as well as the factors affecting the performance are discussed. It is found that the treatment efficiency depended mainly on the pH.The most suitable pH for the treatment and for the regeneration of magnetic seeds was 5.0 and 11.0,respectively.
