Union”s role in the collective action-case analysis on the Honda strike
Collective action is a striking phenomenon in contemporary Chinese society,as it develops with the capitalisation of the economy.Collective action in China is very different from collective action in the West. This paper firstly introduces its status, classification, and also the role of the union,in terms of the legislation,in a collective action. This provides a practical background to understand the union”s strength and limitation in a strike. In the second part,by virtue of the interviews with union officers, the research goes into an empirical study on how the union discerns its relationship with workers. With the supplement of the analysis on its relation with employers and the government,it reveals a dynamic and detailed union”s perception of its representative role in a strike.
