Homotopy analysis of nonlinear short-crested waves in water of finite depth
An analytic approximation method known as the homotopy analysis method (HAM) isapplied to study nonlinear short-crested waves in water of finite depth. Series solutions for the velocity potential, the wave frequency and the wave profile are derived. The calculatedproperties of short-crested waves agree well with previous numerical results for small wavesteepness and with the increase of wave steepness our solutions appear to be more pronouncing.Furthermore, HAM provides a convenient way to guarantee the convergence of seriessolution. This work indicates HAM is suitable to solve nonlinear short-waves problems, especially those without small/large physical parameters.
