Studies on the Use of Recombinant Spider Silk Protein/Polyvinyl Alcohol Electrospinning Membrane for Wound Dressing

a series of blend nanofibers membrane (NFM) ofpolyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and recombinant spider silk proteinwere prepared by electrospinning. The NFM was analyzed byscanning electron microscopy(SEM), atomic forcemicroscope(AFM) and Fourier transform infraredspectroscopy(FTIR).The analysis by the former two, namelySEM and AFM, showed that the surfaces of fibers prepared at 80kv, 20 cm, 5 ml/h were smooth, without any bead. The averagefiber diameters were detected to be 200-400 nm and tend toincrease with concentration of electrospun solution, nozzle-togrounddistance, applied voltage and solution flow rate. Thefibers adhere together after being dealt with alcohol. NFMtransformed from random coil into β-sheet after being immersedin alcohol. Additionally, the porosity of electrospun membranewas 84.85%, which is higher than that of cast membraneprepared with the same composition. The experiments ofapplying electrospun membranes for wound dressing for SDwound healing show that it could promote wound healing andbFGF expression.
