Kinematic Analysis of Planar Cam Mechanism with Translating Flat-faced Follower by Equivalent Linkage Method
The kinematic analysis of a planar cam mechanism can be realized by replacing the cam mechanism with its equivalent linkage. The main idea of the equivalent linkage method is to replace a higher-paired contact with an appropriate lower pairs which can produce the same correct values of velocities and accelerations for the instantaneous phase under consideration. In this paper the proposed method has been using for analyzing the motion of a planar cam mechanism with a translating flat-faced follower. First the pitch curve of cam could be found according to the cam contour. Then, the translating flat-faced follower was transformed into a knife-edge form. After that, this cam mechanism was further transformed into an equivalent linkage. So the kinematic analysis of the equivalent linkage was made to obtain the kinematic characters of the original cam mechanism. The analysis results demonstrated the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method.
