A Comparison between the Common Mathematical Models of PSS/E and PSDBPA
PSD-BPA developed by China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) is a widely-used power system simulation program package in Chinese electric power industry; however PSS/E of Siemens PTI (Power Technologies International) is one of the most widely used power system simulation tools around the world. This paper analyzes and compares the common mathematical models for transient stability including synchronous generator, excitation system, turbine and governor, load and even DC transmission system in PSDBPA and PSS/E. The performance of original conversion program is improved based on the above analysis and the proposed solution scheme for some special models. The case studies have been carried out on an IEEE 3-machine and 9-bus system and an actual AC/DC system in China Southern Power Grid (CSG) by the two softwares, respectively. The results of the analysis and calculation show that PSD-BPA and PSS/E resulted in very approximate conclusions. Furthermore, the differences are explained and discussed.
