Axial vibrations of non-uniform nano-rods with the nonlocal continuum model
Carbon nanocones have quite fascinating electronic and structural properties. Their axial vibration isnot discussed in the previous studies. In this paper, based on nonlocal continuum mechanical theories, anonuniform rod models are developed and applied to investigate the small-scale effect and the nonuniformeffect on axial vibration of nanocones. After constructing governing equation of general nonuniform nanorodsaxial vibration of nanocones are analyzed for nonuniform parameters, mode number and nonlocal parameters.Explicit expressions are derived for mode frequencies for clamped-clamped and clamped-free boundaryconditions. It is found that the axial vibration frequencies are highly over estimated by the classical rod modelbecause of ignoring the effect of small length scale.
