Analysis of dislocation stability in nanoscale inhomogeneity with interface stress

The stability of screw dislocations inside a nanoscale cylindrical inhomogeneity with interface stress is analyzed. The critical radius of the inhomogeneity of the screw dislocation stability in the nanoscale inhomogeneity is derived. The influence of the interface stress on the critical radius of the inhomogeneity is evaluated. The results indicate the critical radius of inhomogeneity will increase for considering the negative interface stress and will decrease for considering the positive interface stress. In addition, the critical radius increases with the decrease of the shear modulus of the matrix.
