Effect of carbon fibers oxidation treatment on the properties of its reinforced cement

Carbon fibers (T700) were slightly oxidized at 773K in air for a short time. Then carbon fiber-reinforce cement(CFRC)was produced by the oxidized and un-oxidized fibers as reinforced phase. Through detecting the physical and mechanical properties of CFRC, observing the microstructure of the fracture of the Side Bend Test samples, the result shows that, by adding the right amount of carbon fibers, the density of CFRC reduces while porosity enhances. At the same time, both the bending strength and the compressive strength enhance. SEM morphology shows that the fracture of carbon fibers is fibers pull-out failure mainly. Carbon fibers with slight oxidation can improve the combine state of the interface between the fibers and the matrix, and which results in the mechanical properties of the CFRC greatly improved.
