Witnessing as a Human Right
A human right is not something earned. We do not have to prove ourselves worthy of it. It is a birth right. Beginning and end of story — at least as long as we stay at the level of generalities and speak of human rights in terms of human dignity and integrity. As soon, however, as we move beyond these abstractions to identify the concrete conditions necessary to secure our dignity and to name the criminal acts which destroy it, the story gets complicated.
