Natural disasters are a prime example of an area of news coverage that is often out of proportion, in that the severity of the disaster frequently is not proportional to the amount of news coverage that the disaster receives. Previous research has uncovered great discrepancies within the amount of coverage given to various disasters, by various local and non-local mediums.
