Commissioning of Two Large Seawater UF Pre-treatment Systems:Comparing Pressure and Submerged

Decreasing rainfall for the last 30 years coupled with rapid population growth in Western Australia has resulted in drastic reduction in the available freshwater supply. Western Australia identified seawater desalination as climate-independent water supply solution, which would help ensure a sustainable water supply for both Perth and surrounding regions. The 50 GL/yr (160 ML/day) Southern Seawater Desalination Project (SSDP) with capacity to expand to 100 GL/yr, was awarded to the Southern Seawater Water Alliance (SSWA) in November, 2008 produced first water in the middle of 2011.
