Effects of Precipitation layer on Backscattering from Sea Surface
The effects of precipitation on backscattering from sea surface at Ku-band are investigated in this study. A Scattering model for sea surface with precipitation that accounts for the effects of rain column is presented. The rain column is modeled as many sublayers with different physical characteristic determined by the vertical precipitation profile. Each sublayer is assumed to be statistically homogeneous. Sea surface scattering is modeled using the IEM model ”1”. Multiple scattering within and interactions between the rain layer and sea surface are accounted for in the matrix doubling formulation ”3”.
