The Yunkai charnockites recorded crustal anatexis in Caledonian beneath the western Cathaysia block
Charnockite, a quartzfeldspathic rock containing orthopyroxene, is an important component in the high-grade metamorphic deep-crustal terrains, How was it formed? It is igneous or metamorphic, still on debate. The Yunkai charnockite in the Gaozhou Complex within the western Cathaysia block has little been researched since it was found in the1900s. The complex is composed of granitic gneiss, amphibolite, leptynite, migmatite, gneissic granite and charnockite. Gneissic granite occurred as domes in the granitic gneiss, migmatite and leptynite. Chamockite occurred as small dome(~llkm2) in the gneissic granite.
