Partitives and specificity effects for Japanese
This paper investigates Japanese (non-)partitive constructions and supports Jackendoff.s (1977) argument for the presence of two NPs (one of which is phonologically null) with two pieces of strong evidence. 1. Specificity and (pseudo-)partitives. The definite NP allows only the pseudo-partitive reading in (1).
