A Critical Review of Studies on Chinese BEI Sentences with Retained Object

摘要：

Sentences like (1) have received much attention from a number of researchers within generative framework. Such constructions are special in that (a) the verb occurs with BEI; (b) a nominal expression is positioned after the verb (NP2); (c) the nominal expression before the verb (NP1) bears a possessive relation with NP2; and (d) they have an alternative construction with almost the same meaning as shown in (2).
