Development of Laser Scanning Technologies in the Blast Furnace Measurement at CSC
To stabilize the operation of the blast furnace and to raise its operation efficiency, the 3D laser scanning technology is employed in this study to monitor the blast furnace with elevated speed. A data registration method has been developed to align two range data measured at different period and locations into the same coordinate system. By analyzing the burden surface profiles measurements, the mechanism of the tilting angle of the chute and the consequent shape of coke terrace was obtained, which can be used to predict the actual shape of the coke terrace in the working blast furnace. The result of the inner refractory lining measurement can be used to generate a detailed residual thickness report compared with that taken before the blow-in operation. This technology is also adopted to evaluate the performance of gunning operation in the blast furnaces at CSC. After years of practicing, the technology was found to be practical in blast furnace operation since valuable information was provided to the operation personnel such that the performance of the blast furnace was improved.
