The Development of Aeronautical Satellite Communication System
Aeronautical satellite communication system is an im-portant development direction of satellite communicationsystem with the realization of global coverage of the satel-lites. Aeronautical satellite communications have beenwidely used in both business application and military ap-plication. In business application, the demand for makingair traveling more pleasant, secure and productive forpassengers is one of the winning factors for airlines andaircraft industry. Current trends are towards high data ratecommunication services, in particular Internet applica-tions. In military application, aeronautical satellitecommunications have a lot of advantages compared toterrestrial satellite communications because of their ma-neuverability and much wider coverage. Aerial platformscan carry different payloads, which can be used for aerialexploration, aerial survey, ocean research, navigation andpositioning, disaster observation, theater warning, elec-tronic reconnaissance and electronic jamming. This paperintends to give an overview of the development of aero-nautical satellite communications and recent application..Aeronautical satellite communication system is an important development direction of satellitecommunication system. Previous development of aeronautical satellite communications is introduced. Presentsituation of aeronautical satellite communication in both business application and military application is alsointroduced. Key issues of the aeronautical satellite communication are given.
