The scaling method for the whipping response of a ship structure to underwater explosion

  The whipping response of a ship structure to underwater explosion is relevant not only to the shock wave load but also to the bubble load. Although this topic has been widely investigated and various methods have been developed, it has been a difficult problem to simulate the whipping response of a real ship structure to underwater explosion by scaled model test for a long time. In this paper, a special scaling method called Loading Inherent Subspace (LIS) scaling method is presented which can simulate the bubble loadings and its amplified factor to the whipping response by the scaled model test. A scaled model test of whipping responses to underwater explosion is executed. It is shown that the most important parameters to the whipping responses are the ratio of the maximum radius to the detonation distance and the ratio of the period of the first bubble pulsation to the period of the first beam vibration mode.
