The Involvement of Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transiti

  Objective The molecular mechanisms regulating fetal prostate development are largelyunknown, but this subject has attracted intense interest because of its potential relevance tohuman prostate diseases such as prostatic neoplasia and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Currently,researchers have demonstrated that epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a key role inthe invasion and metastasis of human prostate cancer. While whether EMT is also involved inhuman fetal prostate development is unknown. In this study, we investigated the temporal andspatial distribution pattern of EMT makers and its regulator Twist in the development of humanfetal prostate.
