Recyclable Sorption Material Obtained by Immobilizing Waste Dye in Barite
Highly concentrated dye wastewater is often drained into environmental water during production and use, most of which is harmful to human health. Recently,we sought a new way to immobilize major component of dye wastewater in barite by co-precipitatio-n method, leading to cost-effective sorbents applicable to organic wastewater treat-ment. For instance,a barite-based sorbent was successfully yielded by immobilizati-on of weak acidic pink red B(APRB) from the dye wastewater. The experimental resul-ts showed that the sorbent has a very high adsorption capacity in removal of some c-ationic dyes, such as ethyl violet(EV),cationic brilliant red 5GN(CBR),methylen-e blue(MB) and Basic pink red B(BPR),and four kinds of POPs(Fig. 1),which attri-buted to high negative charge and lipophilic structure features of APRB.The adsorpt-ion of cationic dyes corresponded to the Langmuir isotherm modeland involved chargeattraction, and that of POPS corresponded to the octanol-waterpartition law and involved hydrophobic stacking. In addition, the hybrid sorbent wasregenerated from slud-ge over five cycles by acidification with adsorption capacityappreciably changed. T-his work has developed a simple,eco-friendly and practicalapproach for preparation of wastewater sorption material. Further studies are currentlyunder way.
