Chemical treatment of Ti substrates using high-intensity ultrasound
The aim of this study is to experiment a new surface treatment for titanium in order to improve its ability to induce hydroxyapatite deposition. This treatment is composed of an ultrasonic assisted H2O2/HCl immersion followed by an NaOH immersion. Hydroxyapatite can be induced to form on the surface during the SBF immersion test. The study shows that porous structure was formed on Ti by soaking in H2O2/HCl solution with ultrasonic. And the obtained coarse surface makes a contribution to the improvement of bonding strength. It is thus concluded that ultrasonic irradiation had a benefic effect on the peroxide treatment. Treatment of an an ultrasonic assisted H2O2/HCl soaking, then an NaOH immersion, may be an effective way to produce bioactive surfaces of implants.
