Social Isolation Increases Aggression and Neuronal Excitability and Social Interaction Extends Lifespan in Drosophila Mutants
We report a case of unequivocal lifespan extension induced by social interaction rev-ealed inshort-lived SOD1 mutants, defective in cytosolic CuZnSOD enzyme. When co-ho-used with flies ofother genotypes,Sod flies gained an almost 100% lifespan increas-e,as well as significant enhancement in motor ability and stress resistance. This un-expected finding might provide an entrypoint for identifying the network of the soc-ial interaction-responsive genes.
