Recent developments of renewable energy in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong，a number of medium-scale BIPV and wind energy systems were completed in last few years.These renewable energy projects included government buildings，commercial buildings，schools，institutional buildings.The power rating the BIPV system for each project is in the order of kilowatts to tens of kilowatts，and even a 800kW wind turbine.Most of these systems are gird-connected type to eliminate the bulky and troublesome battery banks.Some of these projects are retrofitting on existing buildings；while some are parts of a new building.The paper will give details on the design of these PV systems in Hong Kong，including system configurations，design considerations，grid-connecti oninterfacing，their performance，and experience gained.Some wind turbine projects will also be discussed.The paper will also reveal some of the BIPV projects under planning in Hong Kong，the direction of development,and related regulatory issues.
