Microdrilling Technology and its application prospect

Microdrilling Technology is a frontline well drilling technology which is higher efficiency、lower cost and environmental protective. It is promising for improving efficiency of exploration and exploitation. Drilling holes diameter of microdrilling technology is less than 88.9mm. Because the size of well hole is small. And combining the use of oiled Tubing、new Seismic technology for Reservoir Imaging, automate well drilling is easier to realize. Therefore, it lower drilling costs result from reduced rig time, materials, labor, and support equipment. It can also reduce time of production interruption, improve production efficiency, lessen cost of exploitation by one second and lessen cost of marine drilling by more than one second. At the same time, it Lessen Environmental Impact results from reduced drilling waste, smaller footprints, and increased transport ability for remote, fragile terrains. However, support technologies and equipments of Microdrilling technology is not well developed at present. Microholes may not be used, at least initially, as actual production wells. Though, Microdrilling can be used for directional drilling?underbalanced drilling、formation testing、drilling shallow development wells and drilling deep exploration holes. Microdrilling Technology may be applied in operation in sensitive and bad environment such as under ultra-deepwater、at sea and at remote area of land, they could also be used to place sensors in or near a reservoir for data monitoring and for tracking the progress of oil or gas recovery operations by detecting how fluids are moving through a reservoir. Lower cost of Microdrilling technology will make it widely used.
