Stochastic model updating based on deterministic optimization
This paper presents a model updating strategy for random finite element model by deterministic optimization algorithm. Theeffects of uncertainties in both measured modal frequencies and structural parameters of finite element model are considered as randomvariables during model updating process. According to the probability principle, the proposed model updating methodology transformsmodel updating problem into two equivalent deterministic constrained optimization problems regarding the mean values and covariance ofrandom variables. The random structural parameters of finite element model are considered to be independent from each other. Both themean value and associated standard deviation of random structural parameters can be obtained in iterative fashions so as to minimize thedifference between the predicted and the measured random modal frequencies. The updated finite element model can generate relativelyreasonable random modal frequencies close to the experimental ones. Numerical studies are carried out using collected modal frequenciesobtained from in-situ monitoring of the Binzhou Yellow River Highway Bridge,China and the corresponding finite element model. Thenumerical results show the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method.
