Treatment of Osteoporosis:New Horizons

Interest in osteoporosis as an age-related disorder is Fuelled by the strong age dependence offracture associated with the dramatic increase in life expectancy in all countries of the world.Osteoporosis has been defined as a ”condition characterized by micro architecturaldeterioration of skeletal structure predisposing to fragility fracture，its principle manifestation”.There are varivus non-invasive ways in which the micro architectural deterioration of osteoporosis can be detected. The best researched is the use of DXA which uses photon beams of two intensities to measure bone mass and area in the central skeleton both of whichare remarkably accurately measured by this technique. They are then combined into one number，areal BMD.
