Youth smoking and the tobacco industry”s Youth Smoking Prevention (YSP) programme in Hong Kong
Youth smoking is an increasing public health problem globally. The Hong Kong Council on Smokingand Health (COSH) has recognised the problem early and started the Youth Smoking Survey in 1994,followed by further surveys in 1999 and 2003.The 1994 survey showed dose response relationships of increasing respiratory symptoms withincreasing smoking, with excess risks of 50% for weekly smokers rising to 200-300% for those who smokedmore than 6 cigarettes daily.
