REFINING OF ALUMINIUM IN NEW 65kA THREE-LAYER ELECTROLYSIS CELLS
Xinjiang Join-world Co．Ltd．Is the largest refinedaluminum producer in China．It had 6432kA three-layer electrolysis cells for refiningaluminum with the Gadeau process electrolyte systemand capadtyof 5,000t/a before October，2002.Toreach the target capacity of 20，000t/a，it wasproposed to build 65kA threeqayer electrolysis cellswith the SAIA process dectmlyte system．A pilotplant of 64 65kA three-hyer electmlysis ceils(XI-65)was commissioned in October，2002.Advanced design and new materials were applied for thecell shell and lining to get better stability ofmagnetic hydrodynamics and heat balance．The twoprocess electrolyte systems were tested in four65kA three-layer dectrolysis cells．At last，theGadeau process dectrolyte system with solid refined aluminun cathode was selected for the pilotplant．With eight months test production，the cathodiccttrrent efficiency is up to 99％，DC powerconsumption 14，000kW·h/t aluminum．
