Scalable Sensor Monitoring System Using Zone Based Wireless Mesh Networks

Large-scale wireless sensor networks comprise of thousands of tiny and low cost devices with very limited energy.Sensors in this network collaborate with each other to monitor surrounding environment and transmit data to sink points by means of multi-hop communication. Thus routing functionality is necessary for self-organized sensor networks. The routing, however, requires high energy consumption and introduces a scalability issue. To tackle the problem,we propose a hierarchical sensor network, where sink nodes self-organize a form of mesh network.Such a way releases a dependency of sink nodes on pre-installed network infra.Thereby sensors directly transmit data to their sink node that can be located anywhere, resulting in low energy consumption and high scalability.
