Leaching of Metals from Aquifer Soils during Infiltration of Reclaimed Water of Low Ionic Strength

Soil samples with both of vadose zone and aquiferwere collected from two recharge sites:theWater Campus Project (WCP)at Scottsdale and theIsland Wastewater Treatment Plant (IWWTP)at LakeHavasuCity,Arizona;RO and CAP water was also collectedfrom WCP,and ground water from IWWTP. All soil andwater samples have been characterized and analyzedfor relevant properties, water quality parameters andmetalconcentrations. It is anticipated that the level ofextractable metals naturally existing in the soilsamples may below. Because of the small amount of metal leachingobserved in some soil samples, decision was made toartificially load a fraction of the soil samples withmetals of interest by adsorption and aging.Desorptionexperiments are being performed using both theoriginal and the metal loaded soil samples.
