On the mechanism of torsional flutter instability for 1st Tacoma Narrow Bridge by discrete vortex method
The mechanism of torsional flutter instability for flow around the 1st Tacoma Narrow Bridge deck are investigated by using numerical simulation based on Random Vortex Method. It could be concluded that the torsional flutter can be excited and the aerodynamic force induced by the vortex-shedding will reveal two dominant frequency, which one is the frequency of the forced rotational motion and other is the vortex shedding frequency if the vortex shedding action do not locks on to one of forced rotational motion of the bridge deck.
