Application of Polyurethane and Epoxy Adhesives/Sealants in Industry and Construction
Although adhesive bonding technology is still a relatively new connecting technology compared to other traditional connecting technologies like welding, riveting andscrew fastening, it is widely used in many fields like civil engineering, construction, medicine, aerospace, the packaging and automotive industry because of its incomparable advantages. Polyurethane and epoxy, being two important adhesives, can be found in many application projects. Polyurethane adhesives/sealants are used to bond panels, windshields due to their elastic and mechanical properties, easy application and outstanding durability in industries like automotive, rail, marine and transportation. In construction, they are used to seal and bond components like facades and flooring systems. After the successful introduction of windshield bonding with elastic polyurethane adhesives in automotive OEM, epoxy adhesives were modified to structurally bond the bodywork in the automobile industry to improve its safety and durability. In this paper, I”ll focus on some applications of these adhesives and sealants.
