Polyester Polyols Based on Phthalic Anhydride for Polyurethane Adhesives
Ortho-phthalates are a unique class of amorphous polyester polyols that are derived from the reaction of various glycols with phthalic anhydride or its derivatives. They have been confirmed to have improved hydrolytic resistance over other types of polyester polyols.End use products containing orth0.Phthalates were also shown to exhibit improved hydrolysis than using other types of polyesters.Their utility in flexible package and polyurethane hot melt adhesives were explored. It Was demonstrated that they Can be used in flexible package adhesives for both the prepolymer side and the coreactant side. They imparted adhesives with excellent adhesion on a broad range of substrates and improved adhesion at elevated temperature and retort condition. These polyesters allow a formulator broad processing versatility in PUR hot melt adhesive applications.Several typical properties that these esters Can be used to modify are open time, green strength and viscosity.
