THE EUROPEAN WAY FOR THE“DIGITAL CITIES”

This paper reviews three ambitious European projects carried out at the small European cities in the middle of the 90s which aimed at making them“laboratories”of the Information Society. And have largely contributed to the invention and the incarnation of what is called of the“Digital Cities”.Their social-pull/public policy driven approach for ensuring local appropriation of ICT is described. The paper also gives an outline of the current development of Digital Cities.
