Integrating Computational Thinking with K-12 Subjects:An Investigation of Perceptions and Competencies of Pre-service Teachers in Singapore

A possible pathway to broader Computational Thinking(CT)education is the integration of CT in STEM or other core school subjects. Thus,an emerging need is to investigate teachers of various subjects on their perceptions and perspectives of CT to be introduced in their subjects.A survey study of 168 pre-service teachers in Singapore was conducted to probe into how teachers' interest, understanding, acceptance, and perception of relevance in CT are related with their competency in infusion of CT into their teaching subjects. The quantitative data indicated that most of the participating teachers seem to have developed a high level of interest and acceptance of CT.A correlational and SEM analysis indicated that these teachers, from various subjects, need more professional training opportunities to be prepared to incorporate CT in their teaching, even they have positive attitudes towards the value of CT for their students.
