Interactive Computer Simulation and Animation(CSA)for Improving Student Learning of Impulse and Momentum in Undergraduate Engineering Dynamics
Engineering dynamics is a foundational, but challenging course that undergraduate students in many engineering programs are required to take. This paper describes two interactive computer simulation and animation(CSA)modules we recently developed to improve student learning of the engineering dynamics concepts of impulse and momentum. The worked example problems embedded in the CSA modules are described.A quasi-experimental research study involving intervention and comparison groups was conducted to assess the effect of CSA.The results show that the intervention group achieved over 60%of learning gains, representing a medium effect size(d = 0.47-0.56).
