The Effects of Playing with Different Cooperation Strategies in a Computational Thinking Board Game "Robot City"

Computational thinking has become an important concept of education in K-12.Among the skills of computational thinking, problem solving is also an important capability in real life.In this study,we introduced an educational programming board game,Robot City,to help students cultivate their computational thinking skills. We had the fifth-grade students use different cooperative learning strategies in the learning activity. The experimental group students used the strategy of debugging to pay attention to each other's mistakes; on the other hand, the control group played according to the regular rules. All students played the board game in groups. The results indicated that there were non-significant differences in the learning achievement of students in the experimental and control groups. However, the students in the experimental group had better results for creative self-efficacy.Accordingly,the board game improved their computational thinking and problem solving skills through checking with each other. However, the students in the control group had better learning motivation.
