An Evaluation of Postgraduates'Global Competence and its Influencing Factors

  In the context of globalization and China's the Belt and Road Initiative,global competence is regarded as one of the core qualities for postgraduate students.In the framework of the global competence theory,employing a widely accepted assessment scale,a survey is carried out on the postgraduates in a key university in Xi'an City,Shaanxi Province.To be specific,a quantitatively analysis is done to find out whether there are significant differences among the three dimensions of global competence:knowledge and understanding,cross-cultural skills,attitudes and values.Then the main factors which might exert influences on global competence are explored qualitatively.The results show that there are significant differences among the three dimensions.Postgraduates perform worst in cross-cultural skills.The main factors affecting global competence might be as follows:participating in multinational activities,taking some intercultural communication or major-relevant frontier courses,reading original foreign works,etc.The purpose of this study is to broaden the global horizon and to improve the intercultural communicative competence of Chinese postgraduates.
