Academic and Research Libraries' Redefining Time,Accelerated by the Internet Plus,in Knowledge Management and College Education for Generation Z
The technological culture that academic and research libraries exist in has been rapidly evolving since the popularization of the Internet in the mid-1990s.In a world of proliferating technologies built on top of the Internet and its protocols, academic libraries are concurrently challenged and presented with opportunities. This article, setting libraries'long-standing mission of"connecting people to knowledge"on the online framework, will explore new possibilities of redefining libraries'roles in facilitating learning, teaching, and research.Particularly,in provisioning services for the Generation Z(Gen Z),who are the current student population as well as the emerging demographics of faculty, the article will demonstrate how library may expand from service providers to knowledge partners by transforming functions from knowledge curation to creation,as well as repositioning from library spaces to classrooms and laboratories. The author will contribute a version of the Internet Plus for academic libraries and its application for Gen Z,substantiated by several endeavors, such as the production of interdisciplinary/comparative scholarship, the integration of active research, and the creation of digital scholarship,at his home institution.
