Clinical analysis of 18 elderly patients with pulmonary fungal infection

[Objective]To get a deep understanding of pulmonary fungal infection in elderly people.[Methods] Retrospective analysis of clinical materials of elderly inpatients with pulmonary fungal infection in Xiangya Hospital and the Second Xiangya Hospital from May 2003 to May 2005.[Results] 18 cases were included,all with susceptible factors of fungal infection.17 cases had pulmonary underlying diseases; 11 cases had been applied by broad-spectrum antibiotics; 7 cases had a long history of hormone; 13 cases were applied by invasive operations; 2 were undertaken chemotherapy.Etiology detections showed that 5 with candida albican,9 with aspergillus,2 with both candida albican and aspergillus,1 with candida tropicalis.2 cases were sugically removed; 15 were undertaken anti-fungal therapy.[Conclusions]There are increasing risk factors of pulmonary fungal infections in elderly patients.We should take early diagnosis and treatment to lower its fatality rate.
