New Teaching Methods in the Information Age-Research and Practice on the Teaching of Oral Histopathology

Purpose: Traditional teaching methods lack the ability to retain students' attention,neither do they fully leverage the benefits of using new technology.As a foundation subject,the teaching of oral histopathology is significant for the students,so they explored new teaching methods adapted to the time.Methods: 95 students of 2017 and 2018 were divided to experimental group which they give students chances to display their understanding of textbook before class and use their own way to make the abstract knowledge easy to be understand by diverse methods.The key point of this reform was "Learning before Teaching and Think How to Learn Effectively".Many new methods such as CPC,Journal Club,Knowledge Competition were used in the reform.The control group includes 122 students of 2014-2016 which were teached in traditional way.Results: By new teaching methods,students put more time in oral histopathology and had strong motivation to study by themselves and discuss in group.Students had more confident when they face the tough task and were more easily to get into oral clinical class according to other teachers.Their final exam scores are better than control group.Conclusion: New teaching methods can attract students' attention and enhance their performance in the class.
