Highly porous nitrogen doped carbon materials derived from bamboo shoots were manufactured through simultaneous carbonization and activation with one-pot synthesis method. The results showed that the obtained carbons had a large specific surface area,a high N content and hierarchically porous structures. When the obtained N-doped carbons were used as catalysts for the Knoevenagel condensation and transesterification reactions, they exhibited excellent activity after post-functionization.The manufacturing process affected on its catalyst activity and the maximum conversion of 16.1%was found to BSNC-700.When BSNC-700 were deprotonated by tBuOK with a concentration of 1.0M,the catalyst conversion increased from 16.1%to 79.9%.the deprotonated base catalyst could also transesterfied ethy acetoacetatc into the corresponding esters. When unsaturated alcohol was used,BSNC-700-tBu(0.1M)had a relatively high conversion and selectivity. The results from this research will provide a guideline to develop bamboo shoot as a precursor to fabricate a superb solid base catalyst.
