Investigating combustion and pollutant gas emissions characteristics of bamboo or torrefied bamboo with coal blends by TG-FTIR
The combustion characteristics of bamboo or torrefied bamboo with coal blends were examined experimentally by using thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA).In this paper, the ratio of bamboo to coal by mass was set as 10%∶90%,20%∶80%,30%∶70%and 40%∶60%.The combustion process of samples divided into oxidation combustion and char combustion stage. The main mass loss of all blends occurred at char combustion stage. The blends had a lower initial temperature than coal. The combustion process of torrefied bamboo/coal blend with the mixing ratio was 10%or 30%was coincided with coal.It is effective to promote combustion characteristic of bamboo with coal blend by torrefying.Meanwhile, the pollutant gas emissions characteristics of all blends such as SO2,CO,CO2 and NOx were determined by Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)measurements. The result showed that S02 and NOx were released in both stages. However, the CO and CO2 were mainly produced in the char combustion stage. The pollutant gas emissions level of torrefied bamboo with coal blends were significantly lower than untreated bamboo with coal blends. And the sample with 20%torrefied bamboo and 80%coal produced the lowest total level emissions. The result from this research will be helpful to promote moso bamboo wastes as biomass products and can provide some valuable information for the development of coal-biomass coiring technologies.
