Multi-Modal Interactions in the Nonlinear Galloping of Soft-Slender Structure with Non-Circular Cross Section

A continuous dynamic model of a soft-slender structure, possesses non-circular cross section, is established by Hamilton principle.In-plane, out-of-plane and torsional modes are included in the present model, where geometric and aerodynamic nonlinearities are considered. The first four in-plane and first four torsional modes of the model are then reserved by applying Galerkin method to study multi-modal transition and stimulation. The numerical simulation is carried out on an engineering project of galloping for iced transmission line. The results indicate that torsional vibration shows its submissiveness to its corresponding in-plane one.Lower (anti) symmetric mode performs to be only triggered by higher (anti) symmetric one.Galloping energy is also checked to be elicited by combined internal resonance, where lower mode is observed to be excited under the cooperation of two higher modes.
